Professor Wins Award From the Georgia Speech-Language-Hearing Association
(Feb. 18, 2014) — Armstrong Atlantic State University professor Jean Neils-Strunjas, Ph.D., CCC-SP, was recently presented with the John (Jack) C. Bess Memorial Award for service to the Georgia Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Neils-Strunjas, a professor of communication sciences and disorders in Armstrong’s Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, was recognized at a special reception in Atlanta on February 7.
The award was presented in honor of John C. Bess, a successful researcher, clinical audiologist and devoted public servant. The Georgia Speech-Language-Hearing Association established the award to honor like-minded individuals.
“It’s truly an honor to be recognized by my peers for this award,” she said. “I’m grateful for the collegiality of the members of the Georgia Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the opportunity to work with such talented professionals across Georgia.”
Neils-Strunjas donated the award’s honorarium to the Mark R. Finlay Visiting Lecture Series fund at Armstrong, which was created in memory of an Armstrong History professor known for his scholarship, his contributions to the State of Georgia and his integrity.
An accomplished faculty member, Neils-Strunjas originally joined Armstrong in 2011 after serving as a professor and director of graduate studies in communication sciences and disorders at the University of Cincinnati. She and the faculty of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Armstrong educate and supervise graduate students who provide speech, language and hearing services at the Rite Care Center for Communication Disorders. The Center offers reduced cost and free services to the university and the greater Savannah community.
