Poetry Society of Georgia 2009-10 Reading Series
(November 16, 2009) The Poetry Society of Georgia 2009-10 Reading Series continues at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 17 with a reading by poet Gordon Osing. All readings are held at the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences, 121 Barnard Street. The cost is $10 for general audience and $5 for students with valid I.D., children under 18, and seniors.
Osing is emeritus professor at the University of Memphis and founder of the River City Writers Series, which has published renditions of both contemporary and ancient Chinese poetry in Hong Kong and China. Osing became the first exchange professor to Central China Normal University. He was awarded a Senior Fulbright Lectureship in American Studies at the (British) Hong Kong University. His full-length collection, The Water Radical (1999), presents poems from his notebooks during three years in China and Southeast Asia.
Other poets scheduled to read from their works include, Chad Davidson on January 19; Nagueyalti Warren on February 6; Waqas Khwiza on March 9; and Kelly Whiddon on April 20.
The series is co-sponsored by the Telfair Museum of Art, Southern Poetry Review, AASU's Department of Language, Literature, and Philosophy, The Live Oak Public Libraries, the Book Lady bookstore, the Savannah Book Festival and the Grassroots Arts Program.
The Grassroots Arts Program is supported in part by the Georgia Council for the Arts (GCA) through the appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly and administered by the City of Savannah's Department of Cultural Affairs. GCA is a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
