Gift Establishes Athletics Endowment
(March 22, 2011) The Armstrong Atlantic State University Foundation, Inc. has received a gift to establish the Armstrong Golf Fund. The endowment will provide funds to purchase golf bags and other equipment to support the Armstrong men’s and women’s golf teams.
The scholarship was established through supporters of Michael Butler, Armstrong head coach of golf. Butler is in his eighth season as coach of the men’s team and enters his third season leading the Lady Pirates. He has led the Armstrong men to six straight NCAA regional appearances and an NCAA Division II National Championship Runner-Up finish in 2005. Armstrong hosted the NCAA Atlantic/Southeast Regional in 2007. Butler was named head coach of the reinstated Armstrong men's golf team in 2000 and has produced six GCAA All-Americans in the last five seasons, including third-team All-American Chris Wolfe from the 2007 campaign.
The 2011 men’s and women’s golf teams’ home course is a Greg Norman Signature Golf Course, located at Savannah Quarters Country Club.
