AASU Student Awarded Scholarship
(August 24, 2009) The University System of Georgia (USG) Foundation has awarded a Regents' Foundation Scholarship to Armstrong Atlantic State University sophomore Christina Nieves, a criminal justice major residing in Hinesville, GA and attending the AASU Liberty Center campus there.
Nieves, who is studying to be a criminal investigator, is originally from the Bronx, NY. She has resided in Hinesville for the past four years.
"I am thankful for this scholarship because now I am able to really concentrate on my studies, " Nieves said.
AASU President Linda Bleicken awarded the scholarship to Nieves during a recent Liberty County Chamber of Commerce luncheon at which Bleicken was a guest speaker.
The Regents' Foundation Scholarship program began in 2007 and has funded 19 scholarships.
In order to qualify for this need-based scholarship, a student must be a Georgia resident who is Pell eligible and maintains at least a 2.5 GPA. Each scholarship covers tuition and mandatory fees for four years at state colleges and universities and for two years at two-year institutions.
