About this event:

Armstrong Atlantic State University’s office of veteran affairs will host a weeklong series of events celebrating the service of the university’s military and veteran students. The university’s inaugural Military Appreciation Week will raise money for local military organizations and heighten awareness about timely issues affecting the military community. Armstrong has 1,000+ military-affiliated students on campus.

Monday, Nov.11

Veterans Day Parade

9 a.m. | Downtown Savannah
Armstrong students, faculty and staff will participate in the 2013 Veterans Day Parade, which at the corner of Gwinnett and Abercorn Street and ends at the corner of East Broad and Broughton Street in downtown Savannah.

Tuesday, Nov. 12

Military Appreciation Day

Noon | Compass Plaza
The Student Veteran’s of America will honor and remember veterans and service members with a ceremony in the Compass Plaza between Armstrong’s Student Union and the Memorial College Center Annex. 11935 Abercorn St.

Tuesday, Nov. 12

% Night at B&D Burgers

7:30 p.m. - close | B&D Burgers on Abercorn St.
B&D Burgers located at 11108 Abercorn St., will donate 10 percent of all proceeds to the Student Veterans of America. Donations will be used to fund local military efforts and organizations.

Wednesday, Nov. 13

Mental Health Awareness Forum

6 p.m. | Student Union, Ballroom A
A speaker from the Department of Veteran’s Affairs PROGrESS Study Program will discuss mental health issues pertaining to service members and veterans such as posttraumatic stress disorder.

Thursday, Nov. 14

Domestic Violence Awareness Forum

6 p.m. | Student Union, Ballroom A
Speaker Joe Penny from the Armstrong Police Department will discuss domestic violence.

Friday, Nov. 15

Military Week Cook Out

11 a.m. | Residential Plaza
In honor of Red Shirt Friday, Armstrong will host a cook out in the Residential Plaza behind Armstrong’s Student Union. Proceeds from the cook out will go towards the Student Veterans of America and other local military support groups.
