About this event:

Armstrong AMT hosts an art gallery reception at 5:30 p.m. Friday, October 3rd for its International Art Exhibition.

From Under the Southern Cross: the People and Patterns of Argentina is a student international art exhibition inspired by study-abroad experiences in Argentina that includes artwork by Armstrong students and faculty.

Under the Southern Cross: Patterns and People of Argentina is a special collaborative project shaped by a Summer 2014 study abroad experience when Armstrong faculty, Rachel Green and Barbara Bruno lead a group of ten students to experience the art and culture of Argentina from the dual perspective of art and anthropology.

Armstrong Art Education senior, Melody McCarthy talks about her experience saying “My study abroad experience gave me a greater appreciation for artisans and a deeper passion to learn about the culture and lives of these people. Not only did I get to experience things I would have never been able to on a personal vacation to Argentina but also I made genuine friendships with my fellow artists.”

Elise Harris states  “My favorite part was meeting some of the greatest people and getting so close to them.”

Artists displaying work in this exhibition will talk briefly about the inspiration for their art during the exhibition’s closing gallery reception where light refreshments will be provided. Silent auction bidding for authentic Argentinean art created for and donated to this exhibit will close at 7 p.m.

All are invited. Admission is free and open to the public.

This exhibit is open through October 3rd in Fine Arts Gallery.
Gallery exhibition hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays
Admission to the exhibition and to the gallery is free of charge.
